To a Legend, Mrs Olaitan, you will be missed.. |
September 30, 2010 |
What can I say...Mrs. Olaitan was a great lady! I am so blessed and honoured to have known this shinning star of class, dignity and distinction. Were it not for her, a lot of young women I know today, myself inclusive, would not be who we are.
Mrs. Olaitan, you will be thoroughly missed but rest assured that you are leaving behind a legacy of respectable, distinguished gentlemen and women. You are what leaders aspire to be and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to breathe the same air as you.
You will be thoroughly missed...Adieu sweet lady, adieu.

CONDOLENCE
On behalf of children of the late Chief Olu Fadairo (MON), I wish to extend our condolences over the demise of your mother, our mentor and most cherished school Principal, Mrs Funlayo Olaitan.
We, the three FADAIRO set of twins were privileged to pass through her guiding, loving and caring hands as a school administrator.
From 1965, when the first set, Wale and I came under her tutelage at the St Catharine’s Model School, Surulere, right through the 70s when the other set, Bola and Popoola as well as the last set, Gbenga and Yemisi, and of course, Idowu were advantaged to pass through her motherly guidance at the Fountain School Surulere, Lagos, she thoroughly moulded and thus prepared us immensely for our present successes in our various professions.
Her special love and interest for our family and her beautiful smile will forever be indelible in our memories.
The legacy she left in the educational annals of the country is worth mentioning as she has nurtured many men and women at the most formidable age of their lives into proficient persons.
We pray that the Almighty God Himself will comfort and give your family the fortitude to bear this great loss. May he also empower you to sustain the good work she has left behind.

You Live On |
October 2, 2009 |
Aunty, even though I didn't attend Fountain School, you contributed to my education with coaching for my common entrance and even supported with prayers and advice until you departed. I remember spending Saturday afternoons with you & Uncle D back in 1989 & 90, it was a very nice time for me and I will never forget how much you cared.
Its good to know you are in a better place even though it hurts that I will never see you again, but one thing is for certain, we all know that you lived the good life and you went out of your way every single day to help people and God definitely used you to achieve many things.
You have left, but I say YOU LIVE ON, in our hearts and minds. To my cousins and my aburos, it is well, I love you all

Every day has a reason
Every reason has a meaning
Every meaning is a blessing
With God's gracious mercy.
FUNLAYO,
'THE FOUNTAIN' filled with joy
A blessing in disguise
A woman of virtue
Cool, calm and collected
A woman with outstanding qualities
As gentle as a dove
As pretty as a rose
Determined, focused and unique.
It is never over until it is over
but when it is all said and done
all we have to say is
'TO GOD BE THE GLORY GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE'
May your gentle soul rest in peace.

Tribute to Mrs Olufunlayo Olaitan |
September 28, 2009 |
Dear Mrs Olufunlayo Olaitan,
Your transition to glory came as a rude shock to many, if not all. Transition to greater glory, yet the humanity in us was shaken despite our knowledge and assurance that your new abode is far better and more glorious.
As a wife, you nurtured an outstanding, memorable and unforgettable patriarch of the Christian faith in our time; our mentor and teacher, Professor Sam Ade Olaitan. Together, you made unmistakable footprints in Christian church history and in the annals of education in Nigeria. Posterity will continue to speak well of your achievements!
As a member of the Chapel of the Healing Cross and by extension Chapel of Transfiguration, I will always remember your humane and kind mien and demeanour; your gentle and graceful spirituality. You were never hurried, never flurried and never visibly worried. I never ever saw you fretting, fuming or fussing, rather you always had a smile to cheer and warm the hearts of others. Your gentle spirit will be sorely missed!
You were gorgeously elegant! Always well-dressed and well-designed! You had a great sense of graceful fashion and your perfectly matched attires spoke volumes about your personality.
May the precious memories of your gentle, loving and faithful life comfort your children, family and the church.
May the legacies of your life always live on and may they never be forgotten.
May GOD grant your seed the courage, confidence, grace and mercy to nurture and advance your achievements.
Rest in perfect peace dear Mrs Olufunlayo Olaitan, in the ever loving presence of your creator and redeemer. Amen
Adieu

My Tribute |
September 25, 2009 |
I still remember my mornings at "The Fountain School, Surulere" and the hymns we used to sing. I remember how my siblings and classmates - all of us - were touched and shaped in one way or the other by your motherly care. I remember your quiet yet firm person and that smile - the smile that always told me whenever we met how proud you were at how I turned out. I always cherished Christmas at school with you and Papa. You were our mother and father at school; we were like one big family. The imprints you made on our young minds still remain today and the bonds we formed under your tutelage and guidance have not waned with the decades.
Yes, Mama, you were my headmistress - and will always be.
The news of your departure caught me by complete surprise; it was so sudden. I still struggle to express how I feel. Coming so soon after Papa's passing makes it even harder to absorb. But, I take consolation in the belief that you have gone to a better place - with him.
I will miss you greatly. But I can never forget you; the early chapters of my life bear your handwriting. Thank you for the positive impact you have made in my life.
May you rest in everlasting peace with God Almighty.
Farewell, Mama!
'Pade Olagbemi.

September 24, 2009 |
On September 10, 2009, I telephoned you, as your family and mine have always done for several years on Prof’s birthday. We planned to meet on September 18th which would be the one year anniversary of Professor’s passing and exactly the 3rd year anniversary of Tola, my husband’s transition. (Both had transited to glory on the same day). I did not know that our meeting was not to be. It has been painful to deal with the passing of your dear husband, but for you to go soon afterwards defies words. Nevertheless, I am thankful to God for the time that He gave us to know you and your family. You are a worthy God-mother to our son Jolomi whom you closely supervised with his brother, Oti, during their early development, spiritually and academically.
Your strong, though gentle spirit has been a great example to us, not to talk of the indelible mark that you and ‘Prof’ left on the present and future generations at the Fountain Heights School and the Chapel of the Healing Cross. I have no doubt that you, ‘Prof’ and Tola are together and I pray for grace to finish the race here so I too will be found worthy of your glorious company in eternity.
Aunty, you were a graceful, strong and worthy mentor and friend to us. You have run a great race and a golden crown await you. The boys and I will miss you. Goodbye dear sister and friend.
May your soul rest in perfect peace.

A tribute... |
September 22, 2009 |
Few people have made the kind of positive impact you have made in my shaping. Everytime we met, years after graduating from the Fountain School, you would ask "Are you pulling your weight?" and I would answer yes! You were a source of motivation, an example to be looked up to, always a calm gentle soul at all times.
I can never forget you.
Your sudden departure was a shock to me. Definitely and undoubtedly so. There was no pleasant way to receive the news. Yet, consolation comes fro knowing that you have fought your battle and finished your race well. Till we meet again, God will continue to strengthen those of us you have left behind just as he did you.
And even as you lay down your weight in this life, I say to you "Yes, I am still pulling my weight".
Adieu mama!!

The news of mama's death was such a shock that an attempt to write a tribute about her has been one of the most difficult tasks I have undertaken. The last time I saw her, shortly before her last trip abroad, she seemed quite her usual sunny and lively self. I recall that as recent as July I broached the idea of her autobiography to her. I told her that given her enormous contributions to education, she owed it to her parents, ex students and the generality of Nigerians to tell the Fountain story. Her response was her usual cool smile, a penetrating stare and a request to see similar works. It was such an impossible thought that she wasn't going to be with us for many more years!
It was such a privilege knowing someone as pleasant, as motherly and kind as Mrs Olufunlayo Olaitan.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
